Thanks to my Colleagues

I would like to thank each one of my colleagues for the support this semester, it has been great getting to know everyone through posts and blogs. I remember thinking that the blog seemed like a ridiculous assignment, but I have learned a lot about my colleagues by reading the blogs. I also am happy to have learned so much about the blogging, I never knew that you could build an actual website with a blog and have since updated my business and started a website with a blog.

Meaningful Ethical Codes

  1. 1.4—To appreciate the vulnerability of children and their dependence on adults.
    • Young children cannot protect or take care of themselves, therefore they need us to do so for them.
  2. 1.8—To support the right of each child to play and learn in an inclusive environment that meets the needs of children with and without disabilities.
    • Young children learn best through play and being in an inclusive classroom allows all the children to be accustomed to seeing children with and without disabilities, this will help the children realize that this is normal and therefore they should be less likely to judge other children.
  3. 1.9—When we have reasonable cause to suspect child abuse or neglect, we shall report it to the appropriate community agency and follow up to ensure that appropriate action has been taken. When appropriate, parents or guardians will be informed that the referral will be or has been made.
    • I feel that it's great that guidelines are in place that make it mandatory for suspected child abuse to not only be reported but also followed up on to make sure that action was taken. I know that in my state, you no longer report to county offices you have to call the state directly because so many cases were not actually being investigated.

Week 4 quotes

"It is a good rule to face difficulties at the time they arise and not allow them to increase unacknowledged."  Edward W. Ziegler
"We know that teachers are the key to good child care - and as long as teachers are undervalued, American children, too, will keep getting less than they deserve." Marcy Whitebook
"It’s in early childhood education that I was able to really see what a unique opportunity we have in working with children we as professionals in the early childhood field we have an opportunity to shape a child’s life for the better so that’s what makes me passionate." – Sandy Escobido
"Every day I go to work I look forward to it because I know the services that I provide to children it’s to their benefit it’s not anything that’s going to benefit me its more to them." – Raymond Hernandez

Personal Childhood Web

1  Aunt Penny and Uncle Danny Ray are my favorite aunt and uncle we have always been close. Before I was born Uncle Danny Ray almost died of heart problems, but my mother told him he had to stay alive and be an uncle to me and somehow he pulled through. I stayed with them a lot when I was little; they always made me feel like I was one of their children. To this day I am still treated like one of their children, I get told about doctors’ visits and things just like their children are told. On my wedding day my husband was told by Uncle Danny Ray that he better not ever hurt me.
2
MaSue is my maternal grandmother and we always went to see her at least once a week. She makes everyone feel special and loved, whether you are family or not. I remember staying with her after she had some kind of back surgery when I was little and going through the cabinets to get things she needed because I would not let her bend down. I still try to make sure to call and check on her every few days, because she’s not doing so well now. When I got pregnant, my mom told her and she called me the next day to tell me how excited she was about great-gran number 18, because it doesn’t matter how many of us there are we all feel special with MaSue.
3
Grandma was my paternal great-grandmother; she passed away when I was pretty young about 7 to 9. I can’t really remember, I do remember being very upset that I lost my best friend. She lived next door to us and I went to her house to hang out with her almost every day. She helped with my sense of independence because I remember when I got to start using a trail through the woods to go to her house, instead of the driveways. With the driveways, when I was out of my parents sight she could see me, but with the trail no one could see me, so it meant that I was more grown up. I was closer to her than probably anyone else; there are still songs that if I hear I have a hard time not crying because they remind me of her. I would link the song, but then I would cry every time I looked at my blog.

Child That Touches my Heart

I have been watching a little girl since she was two-months-old and she is now fourteen-months-old, I love watching her and my son develop every day. Watching their different personalities is just amazing, she is very clingy to both her parents and me while my son who is eight-months-old is very social. In fall of last year I witnessed her starting to come out of her shell, we go to story time at the public library every week and when we first started going she would cry and cling to my legs if anyone spoke to her or I had to walk away. She has grown to where she will actually walk around and play with the other children. It's great that she has become so much more social than she was just six-months ago.
It also touches my heart that while my son is an only child he will have a big sister figure in her for as long as we are living in proximity to her. They already fight like siblings, and have their times where they are sweet and loving. I feel that they will have a good relationship for a long time.

Childhood Book

One of my favorite childhood books is Corduroy; the reason that I like this book is because while completing my undergraduate degree in Child and Family Development I worked in the Child Development Center on campus as part of my class work. While I was working in the two-year-old classroom, I had to lead a reading activity I used this book and we dressed teddy bears for the activity to accompany the book. The children really enjoyed the story and it just made me enjoy the book even more.
