1 Aunt Penny and Uncle Danny Ray are my favorite aunt
and uncle we have always been close. Before I was born Uncle Danny Ray almost
died of heart problems, but my mother told him he had to stay alive and be an
uncle to me and somehow he pulled through. I stayed with them a lot when I was little;
they always made me feel like I was one of their children. To this day I am
still treated like one of their children, I get told about doctors’ visits and
things just like their children are told. On my wedding day my husband was told
by Uncle Danny Ray that he better not ever hurt me.

MaSue is my maternal grandmother and we always went
to see her at least once a week. She makes everyone feel special and loved,
whether you are family or not. I remember staying with her after she had some
kind of back surgery when I was little and going through the cabinets to get
things she needed because I would not let her bend down. I still try to make
sure to call and check on her every few days, because she’s not doing so well
now. When I got pregnant, my mom told her and she called me the next day to
tell me how excited she was about great-gran number 18, because it doesn’t matter
how many of us there are we all feel special with MaSue.

Grandma was my paternal great-grandmother; she
passed away when I was pretty young about 7 to 9. I can’t really remember, I do
remember being very upset that I lost my best friend. She lived next door to us
and I went to her house to hang out with her almost every day. She helped with
my sense of independence because I remember when I got to start using a trail
through the woods to go to her house, instead of the driveways. With the driveways,
when I was out of my parents sight she could see me, but with the trail no one
could see me, so it meant that I was more grown up. I was closer to her than
probably anyone else; there are still songs that if I hear I have a hard time
not crying because they remind me of her. I would link the song, but then I would
cry every time I looked at my blog.
Tonya,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your family memories with me. Your Maternal Grandma reminds me of my Grandma Willis. She has over 35 grandchildren and great Grands and she has a unique relationship with each and everyone of else. Whenever someone is pregnant in the family, she has the fish dream :)
Tonya,
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean when it comes to songs that remind you of family. I listed 2 songs that remind me of my mom and dad on my blog and I talked about my grandma's favorite song and how it comforts me every time I hear it, but it also makes me cry because I still miss her. I relate a lot of my life and my feelings to songs. I can probably name a song that fits just about every moment of my life. It is just amazing how music can have such an impact on us.
Hi Tonya
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your personal childhood web. You have a wonderful support system. Your relationship with your maternal grandmother reminds me of my relationship with my grandmother. I used to love spending time with her and soaking up all the information I could.
